In 2020-21, another of our board members – Kedeen Cummings – received an award from the General Authority. Our board chair Florence Okwudili and our Community Engagement and Allies Facilitator Steven Feldgaier have also received the same award.
“Each year, the Kim Thomas Award is presented to one community member or CFS staff member who works diligently with newcomers and refugees in the area of community engagement and creating connections with CFS. The award recognizes a leader whose work has helped strengthen the relationship between the child welfare system and cultural communities in Manitoba.
The award is named after former General Authority practice specialist Kim Thomas, who worked on the New Canadian Awareness and Education Initiative, which was created to raise awareness and provide accurate information about Manitoba’s parenting laws and the CFS system to newcomers.”
“The inaugural Kim Thomas Award of Distinction in Community Engagement was presented to Dr. Steven Feldgaier, C. Psych., at the Newcomer Recognition and Appreciation Dinner on March 16, 2016.”
The 2019 Kim Thomas Award was presented to Florence Okwudili, Chair of the Coalition of Manitoba Cultural Communities for Families (CMCCF).
The 2020 Kim Thomas Award was presented to Kedeen Cummings, currently a supervisor at Child and Family All Nations Coordinated Response Network (ANCR).
